Postmodernism

Postmodernism- a complicated term or set of ideas is hard to define.  The concept particularly appears in a wide variety of areas including art, architecture, music, film, literature, sociology, communications, fashion and technology. It's not clear exactly when postmodernism begin as it replaced modernism drastically in the mid-1980s. Modernism tends to present a fragmented view of human subjectivity and history. For Modernism, fragmentation is tragic, which to be lamented and mourned as a loss. In contrast, Postmodernism, doesn't lament the idea of fragmentation, provisionally or incoherence but rather enjoys it.

Post-modernity or postmodern condition is the economic and cultural condition of society exists after modernity. Modernity ended in the late 20th century, replaced by post-modernity, as per some schools of thought. It may also be said as the extension of modernity to cover the developments denoted by post modernity. The tendency in contemporary culture characterized by the rejection of objective truth and global cultural narrative is postmodernism. The role of language, power relations, and motivations is extremely emphasized and thus it attacks the use of sharp classifications. It may be male versus female, straight versus gay, white versus black, and imperial versus colonial. The highly influenced cultural fields by Postmodernism are literary criticism, linguistics, architecture, visual arts, and music. Postmodernist has significantly given clean sweep to modernist approaches that had previously been dominant, thus it can better be said as the rejection of "modern" scientific mentality developed during the Enlightenment.
